The EVM Incident: Has Indian politics hit the new low?

It all started on the eve of 11th march, after the results of Assembly elections for five states were declared. It was time for the statements of the political leaders. They convey the same through press conferences now a days. Winners give credits and express their gratitude, losers accept their defeats, congratulate the winners and take responsibilities for their defeat.
Before coming to my point, I would like to take you all to your childhoods. We used to play different games and many times when we lost, we used to say that the winner has cheated. It didn't matter whether we played badly or whether we made mistakes, we just blindly used to conclude that there was some cheating and began to cry foul.
And as it happened this year, Ms Mayawati decided to remind us all of our childhood. The press was waiting for some logical analysis or at least some logical comment on what they were calling as the biggest setback for the Bahujan Samaj Party since its formation. But Mayawati had other plans. She came out and directly accused BJP of EVM Tampering. Her only argument for these allegations was, "How can Muslims and Dalits vote for BJP". Seriously? what kind of assumption is this?
Anyways, when I was watching all this on television, I thought that the loss is too big to sink in, hence she has given such an immature statement and these allegations will not be taken seriously. But, as it turned out, there is no scarcity of jokers and illogicals in Indian politics. They actually decided to support these allegations whether it was Congress or AAP or SP. Our beloved Kejriwal sahab even came out with figures claiming that 25-30% votes of AAP were transferred to SAD in Punjab Assembly elections.
I was frustrated and irritated to see this whole drama. Aren't these so called public leaders disrespecting the public mandate by making these allegations just to make up for their defeats? Has it became so difficult for our political leaders to accept that they couldn't stand up to our expectations? This drama raises many more questions regarding the politics and the leaders we choose for our representation and development.
By putting up these allegations, they are directly raising questions about the working of an "independent autonomous body". I accept that we live in a democracy and every citizen has a right to say whatever he/she wants. But the way, they have chosen to accuse BJP is unacceptable. It would have been logical if these concerns would have been raised during the polling itself. It is a question mark on the integrity of the system of this country. This whole incident deteriorates the country's image in the global scenario.
On one hand, most of the countries are seeking our EC's help in implementing the EVM system in their respective countries and on the other hand, our politicians are busy blaming this system for their own self.
It is not a matter of false and illogical allegations, what matters is, the level to which our own representatives or netas can come down in the quest of power.
While many of us will laugh this incident off, but it raises a very serious concern.
It indicates that the definition of democracy given by Abraham Lincoln which we used to study in our schools i.e. "Democracy is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people." has been changed to "Democracy is a government of the netas, by the netas, and for the netas."
It indicates that "our netas have started taking Us for granted". And through this post I want to tell them clearly, "Do not take the citizen of this country for granted, Do not take this country for granted."

Cheers.!
